Matthew E. Stone
Matthew E. Stone was born and raised in Lee County and is a graduate of Grace Christian School in Sanford, North Carolina. In 2017, Stone graduated magna cum laude from Liberty University, having received a Deans List designation during each semester he was enrolled.
After earning his Bachelor of Science in Paralegal Studies, Matthew enrolled in Campbell University’s Norman A. Wiggins School of Law in Raleigh, North Carolina, attaining the degree of Juris Doctor in May of 2020. Stone, the grandson of a U.S. Postal worker on his mother’s side and a drywall carpenter on his father’s side, is a first generation lawyer.
During his time in law school, Matthew completed an internship at Turner Law Office in Raleigh where he gained hands-on experience navigating North Carolina’s court system while also assisting Attorney Lee Turner on various in-office tasks; and beginning in the Summer of 2019, Stone accepted a clerkship for the attorneys at Post, Foushee & Patton, P.A. in Sanford, North Carolina, which lasted nearly fifteen months.
While in his clerkship at Post, Foushee & Patton, P.A., Matthew cultivated his legal research and writing skills, a legal skill in which he finds enjoyment. His areas of research and writing during his clerkship at Post, Foushee, Patton often focused on complex State and Federal Constitutional issues; State Criminal Procedure issues; State Evidentiary issues; and issues involving the North Carolina Rules of Civil Procedure. His other areas of legal research and writing during his clerkship included lesser-thought areas of the law, such as the restoration of firearm rights, bond forfeiture issues, and also issues that are more fundamental to a general law practice such as the constitutional and statutory rights of parents, children, and third parties in child custody disputes.
After his graduation from Campbell University School of Law in the Spring of 2020, and subsequent to his passing the North Carolina Bar Examination in July of 2020, Matthew continued his work at Post, Foushee & Patton, P.A. as a legal research and writing assistant while awaiting licensure, performing tasks similar to those he undertook during his clerkship. In October of 2020, Mr. Stone was licensed to practice law in North Carolina and subsequently admitted to practice in the North Carolina Courts of General Jurisdiction the following November.
Outside of work, Mr. Stone is an avid musician, with a penchant for playing, collecting, and building guitars, an instrument he began learning to play at age eleven. His other interests and pastimes include private general aviation, New York Mets baseball, attending concerts and theater, and spectating at ice hockey games. Additionally, Matthew and his wife, Katie are both animal lovers, and he often cites the best hours of any day as those he spends at home relaxing and enjoying down time with his wife and their two dogs, Reece, a cocker spaniel poodle mix, and Shelby, a lab mix adopted from a local shelter.
